Emerging Ireland’s hope of chasing down a massive target of 579 runs quickly dwindled as they collapsed for a mere 143 runs in their second innings. Joshua Bishop was the architect of their downfall, finishing with match figures of eight for 54, including a crucial four-wicket haul in the second innings.

Kevin Wickham’s spectacular unbeaten century, his second in first-class cricket, powered CWI Academy to a formidable total of 321 for eight declared. Wickham’s knock of 105 off 108 balls was punctuated by an array of boundaries, including six fours and five sixes. He received valuable support from his teammates, with captain Nyeem Young contributing 32 runs and McKenny Clarke adding 22.

Bowling prowess

The CWI Academy also showcased their bowling prowess, as they skittled Emerging Ireland for just 143 runs. Liam McCarthy top-scored with 35 not out, while opener Stephen Doheny managed 23, but they were the only batsmen to cross the 20-run mark. Bishop’s left-arm spin proved too much to handle for Emerging Ireland’s batsmen.

Throughout the match, Wickham’s dominating presence with the bat was evident. He reached his fifty off 74 balls and completed his century with a streaky boundary. Wickham’s partnership with Nyeem Young and McKenny Clarke contributed significantly to CWI Academy’s commanding performance.

The victory gave CWI Academy a clean sweep in the two-match first-class series, highlighting their dominance in the series. CWI Academy’s comprehensive win was a testament to their batting prowess, bowling excellence, and solid teamwork, securing their place as the superior side in the series.
