West Indies cricket will be represented by umpire Joel Wilson and match referee Sir Richie Richardson at the upcoming ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in the Caribbean and United States.
Wilson, known for his extensive experience across all formats of international cricket and past participation in multiple Cricket World Cups, joins Richardson, a West Indies legend and esteemed match referee, as the sole representatives from the region.
The duo is part of a group of 20 umpires and six match referees selected by the ICC to officiate in the tournament, scheduled from June 1 to June 29. This edition of the T20 World Cup will feature 20 teams competing in 55 matches across 28 days at nine venues, making it the largest tournament of its kind in ICC history.
Elite list of umpires
Among the elite list of umpires are Richard Illingworth, Kumar Dharmasena, Chris Gaffaney, and Paul Reiffel, all of whom were involved in the 2022 T20 World Cup final. The match referees’ team includes renowned officials such as Ranjan Madugalle and Jeff Crowe, who bring extensive experience to the table.
ICC’s General Manager Wasim Khan expressed confidence in the selected match officials, emphasizing their strong and consistent performances. He highlighted the significance of the T20 World Cup as the biggest event of its kind, underscoring the importance of a competent and capable officiating team.
With preparations underway for the historic tournament, Khan wished the match officials the best of luck, anticipating an exciting and successful event.
