Acknowledging the challenges facing West Indies cricket, Rowley highlighted the need for professional management of resources and suggested revisiting the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) contract to ensure it benefits the region.

The need to address deficiencies in West Indies cricket

Dr. Kishore Shallow, President of Cricket West Indies, echoed Rowley’s sentiments, emphasizing the need to address deficiencies in West Indies cricket and embrace collective efforts to achieve sustained success.

Shallow emphasized the importance of acknowledging documented challenges and accepting the need for reforms, noting the perplexing reality of West Indies cricket’s vulnerability despite its past dominance.

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley underscored the multifaceted significance of cricket, advocating for the development of a comprehensive ecosystem that promotes opportunities for both boys and girls at all levels of the sport.

The importance of strategic planning and brand repositioning

Guyana President Dr. Irfaan Ali emphasized the importance of strategic planning and brand repositioning to revitalize the cricketing ecosystem, highlighting the link between cricket and regional economies, tourism, and cultural integration.

Ali proposed an integrated approach that incorporates factors beyond the boundary, including entertainment, tourism, and merchandising, to redefine the West Indies cricket brand and expand its global appeal.

As discussions unfold at the conference, participants are committed to exploring innovative solutions and leveraging regional strengths to address the challenges facing West Indies cricket, ultimately aiming to restore its legacy of excellence and prominence on the world stage.
