BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Shai Hope, captain of the West Indies cricket team, expressed high praise for his squad following their triumphant 2-1 victory over England in the One Day International (ODI) series, which concluded Wednesday at the Kensington Oval.
The captain celebrated the team’s comprehensive performance, crediting their steady improvement and consistency throughout the series as they set their sights on achieving elite status.
“The dominance that we have shown in the series from the first game is great to see,” Hope remarked post-match. “Putting a lot of consistent performances together is what you need to become an elite team,” he added, reflecting the pride felt across the West Indies camp after their series win.
Decisive third match
Hope highlighted the contributions of Brandon King and Keacy Carty, who were instrumental in the decisive third match. Both players posted impressive centuries that secured the victory and underscored the team’s strength in depth. “Brandon and Keacy played good innings, and these are the things we have been asking for, for a long time,” he said, noting that such performances are vital for building team confidence.
Looking forward, the team will shift focus to the upcoming T20 series, set to begin Saturday. Hope urged his teammates, especially those returning to their respective Super 50 Cup franchise squads, to maintain the high standards set in international play. “Any time a guy comes back from the international level, they need to show why they’re playing international cricket,” he emphasized. “I expect the guys who are going back home to continue to show that dominance and set a standard.”
As they prepare for the T20 series, the West Indies team aims to carry forward the momentum of their ODI success, with Hope reiterating his commitment to fostering excellence and consistency across all formats.
