Competing at the prestigious Rod McCravy Memorial Track & Field meet, Bertrand clocked an impressive 7.30 seconds in the women’s 60-meter dash on Friday at the Norton Sports Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Bertrand’s electrifying performance places her among the world’s elite sprinters for the season and cements her position as the third-fastest Caribbean athlete in the 60-meter dash. Representing Simplex Athletics Club and Ohio State University, the 22-year-old’s time was just 0.1 seconds shy of her personal best, signaling her readiness to dominate in the upcoming outdoor season.

Setting the track ablaze

Despite opting out of the semi-finals on Saturday, Bertrand’s Friday triumph set the tone for a weekend of remarkable athletic prowess. In the women’s 200-meter event, Bertrand secured fifth place overall with a commendable time of 24.09 seconds. Competing in a fiercely contested heat, she left her rivals trailing, finishing comfortably ahead of Kailei Collins (24.72) and Brooke Cochran (24.73) from Howard University, as well as Haley Zell (27.22) of Western Kentucky.

Her consistency and form were on full display, underscoring her reputation as a powerhouse sprinter on both collegiate and international stages.

Bertrand returned to the track on Saturday to represent Ohio State in the 4×400-meter relay alongside teammates Avery Clark, Callia Harri, and Bobbi Olive. The quartet clocked a respectable 3:47.70 minutes, earning a 10th-place finish in the timed finals. Bertrand’s versatility across events and distances highlighted her value as both an individual athlete and a team player.

As Leah Bertrand approaches the outdoor season, her recent performances hint at even greater accomplishments on the horizon. Her ability to consistently deliver top-tier results has established her as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most promising track and field stars.
