PARIS, France — Jamaica’s 19-year-old Tia Clayton blasted the field to win semi-final three of the women’s 100m in 10.89 seconds, beating back Great Britain’s Daryll Neita in 10.97 seconds and American Twanisha Terry in 11.07 seconds.
Fourth place went to Germany’s Gina Lueckenkemper in 11.09 seconds.
Clayton will be Jamaica’s lone representative in tonight’s final which comes up in just over an hour’s time. Early reports indicate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce got injured during warmup.
St Lucia’s Julien Alfred won semi-final two of the women’s 100m in a blistering time of 10.84 seconds, beating American favorite and World Champion Sha-Carri Richardson with 10.89 seconds. Third place went to Gambia’s Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye with 11.10 seconds. Patrizia van der Weken was fourth in 11.13 seconds.
Shashalee Forbes finished sixth in the first semi-final of the women’s 100m inside the Stade de France. Forbes clocked 11.20 seconds in a race won by American Melissa Jefferson in 10.00 seconds, with Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith of Ivory Coast taking second in 11.01 seconds. Third place went to Mujinga Kambiundji of Switzerland in 11.05 seconds and Ewa Swoboda of Poland took third place in 11.08 seconds.
