KINGSTON, Jamaica – The National Stadium is set to erupt with world-class speed and spectacle on June 7, as Olympic 100m silver medalist Kishane Thompson and reigning Olympic 100m hurdles champion Masai Russell headline a dazzling line-up for the seventh staging of the Racers Grand Prix.
Organized by the legendary Coach Glen Mills, the meet promises to deliver another unforgettable night of elite athletics, uniting global superstars and rising Caribbean talent in one of the region’s premier track and field showcases.
“The Racers Grand Prix is not just a meet—it’s a celebration of excellence and a platform for greatness,” Mills declared during Tuesday’s media launch at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
A galaxy of champions assembles
Thompson, one of Jamaica’s most electrifying sprint sensations, will headline a formidable male roster that includes World 400m Champion Antonio Watson, Olympic long jump silver medalist Wayne Pinnock, and World Championships finalist Oblique Seville.
Joining them on the track will be local crowd favorites Bryan Levell and Rusheen McDonald, along with a notable return from Christopher Taylor, making his highly anticipated comeback after serving a two-year ban.
The international firepower is just as potent, with American standouts Chris Bailey and Tray Cunningham bringing their speed to the lanes, alongside Zharnell Hughes of Great Britain, whose performances have electrified the European circuit.
Women’s events to sizzle with global and local greats
Leading the charge on the women’s side is none other than Masai Russell, who stunned the world with her Olympic victory in the 100m hurdles. She will be joined by the inimitable Tobi Amusan of Nigeria, the current world record holder in the event.
The meet will also shine a spotlight on Jamaica’s next generation of sprint queens, including the Clayton twins, Tia and Tina, who continue to carve their names into sprinting folklore. Also confirmed are Alana Reid, Sasher-Lee Forbes, and Crystal Slowly, along with American speedsters Alicia Briscoe and Tina Jones.
Government backing and fan-friendly access
Minister of Sports Olivia Grange reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the sport by announcing a $10 million contribution to support this year’s staging.
“This meet stands as a beacon of Jamaica’s rich track legacy and our enduring investment in the future of athletics,” Minister Grange stated.
Fans are in for a treat not only on the track but also at the gates: Bleachers tickets will be free, but patrons must register via the Racers website by entering their name, phone number, email, and age. However, from May 31, bleachers tickets will be priced at $1,000 JMD. Grandstand tickets are set at $3,000 JMD for regular and $5,000 JMD for finish line access.
From prodigies to seasoned champions, the Racers Grand Prix promises to be a night of unforgettable moments, etched into the track and into history.
