Slingerz Football Club has made a significant move ahead of the upcoming Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League season by appointing Jamaican Alex Thomas as the club’s new head coach.
At 41 years old, Thomas steps into the role previously held by Charles ‘Lilly’ Pollard, who resigned as head coach of the Vergenoegen-based club.
Thomas brings a wealth of coaching experience to Slingerz FC, having previously served as head coach for Jamaica Premier League teams Arnett Gardens FC and Molynes United. His track record demonstrates his ability to lead teams at the highest level of competition.
In addition to his coaching credentials, Thomas boasts an impressive playing career. He captained Jamaica’s Under-17 team during the 1999 World Cup in New Zealand and was also part of Jamaica’s Under-20 squad that competed in the 2001 U20 Youth World Cup held in Argentina. Thomas earned one cap for Jamaica’s senior team under Serbian Coach Bora Milutinovic during the Lunar Cup in China.
Slingerz FC expressed enthusiasm about Thomas’ appointment, highlighting the alignment with the club’s vision and expressing confidence in his ability to guide the team to success in the upcoming Elite League season. With Thomas at the helm, Slingerz FC aims to capture their second Elite League title, building on their past achievements and further solidifying their position in Guyana football.
