Richard King has wasted no time in finding his footing at St Mirren Football Club.
The 23-year-old Jamaican international, who officially joined the Scottish Premiership side on a two-year contract—with the option of an extension through 2028—is already feeling a strong sense of belonging.
Following a summer that saw him represent Jamaica at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, King touched down in Paisley last week to link up with his new teammates. Despite only a few days in his new environment, he’s already struck by the club’s cohesive atmosphere.
“From my little time here, I can see the team is like a family,” King shared in an interview with stmirren.com. “Everyone is close and really works together, so I think it’s really nice here. I know I’m in a good place.”
Early impressions: Warmth and work ethic
Although King’s visa clearance has now been confirmed, he will not feature in St Mirren’s upcoming preseason friendly against Airdrieonians. Yet that hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm or dulled his early impressions of the club’s camaraderie and professionalism.
“I’m very excited to get working with the boys and the coaches,” he said. “It feels like a good place to be. There are some good lads and some nice people.”
The versatile center-back, known for his poise under pressure and composure on the ball, is eager to integrate fully into Stephen Robinson’s squad and contribute meaningfully once competitive action begins.
Bolstering the backline with international steel
King’s signing adds both quality and depth to a St Mirren side that finished in the Scottish Premiership’s top six last season. With international caps under his belt and solid performances at both club and national level, the former Cavalier SC defender is seen as a key asset as the Buddies aim to push further up the league table.
His presence not only strengthens the defensive options but also injects fresh energy into a team looking to build on last season’s success with resilience and unity.
As Richard King adjusts to life in Scotland and embraces the club’s values, it’s clear he’s already becoming more than just a new signing—he’s becoming part of the St Mirren family.
