El Paso Locomotive FC has secured the signing of Jamaican international goalkeeper Jahmali Waite in preparation for the 2024 USL Championship season, the club announced on Thursday.
Waite joins El Paso after spending two seasons with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, where he played a key role in their success during the 2023 campaign.
During his tenure with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, Waite helped the team claim the 2023 Eastern Conference Regular Season championship and secure the USL Championship Players’ Shield. His outstanding performances earned him the 2023 USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Year award.
50 appearances
In 50 appearances for the club, Waite recorded 17 clean sheets and made 87 saves, boasting an impressive save percentage of 62.59%. He conceded only 52 goals during his time with Pittsburgh.
El Paso Locomotive FC’s Head Coach and Technical Director, Brian Clarhaut, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition of Jahmali Waite, praising his reflexes, athleticism, and goalkeeping prowess. Clarhaut believes that Waite, a proven USL goalkeeper with significant potential, will play a pivotal role in the team’s ambitions for the 2024 season.
Waite, who is 25 years old, has become a regular member of the Jamaica Men’s National Team and made his international debut in late 2022 against Cameroon. He played an essential role in Jamaica’s qualification for the 2023/24 CONCACAF Nations League Semi-finals, accumulating a total of eight appearances with the Reggae Boyz.
Journey in professional soccer
Expressing his excitement about the move to El Paso Locomotive FC, Jahmali Waite looks forward to continuing his development in a new environment and aims to contribute positively to the team’s pursuit of a championship.
His journey in professional soccer includes time with the Philadelphia Union Academy, Philadelphia Union II (formerly Bethlehem Steel), Fairleigh Dickinson University, and the University of Connecticut.
In addition to his collegiate career, Waite made appearances in USL League Two, representing Reading United AC and the Ocean City Nor’easters in successful runs during various seasons.
