AUGUSTINE, Trinidad & Tobago– Reigning champions and hosts Trinidad & Tobago Red Force surged to the top of the CG United Super50 Cup standings with a dominant nine-wicket win over the West Indies Academy at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground on Thursday.
Winning the toss, Red Force put the Academy team in to bat first—a decision that paid off handsomely as the Academy line-up was bowled out for a mere 135 in 34.2 overs.
Red Force spinner Yannic Cariah led a sharp bowling attack, taking 4-37 from 8.2 overs, while Khary Pierre supported strongly with 3-14 from his economical eight overs. Bryan Charles chipped in with 2-23 from seven overs, showcasing Red Force’s depth in spin options. For the Academy, Joshua Bishop (31) and Rivaldo Clarke (30) were the only players to mount any real resistance, though their efforts fell short of creating any significant partnerships.
Modest target
In response, the Red Force chased down the modest target with ease, reaching 136-1 in just 26.1 overs. Amir Jangoo, in superb form, scored an unbeaten 70 off 78 balls, building on his recent 96-run performance against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes. Kjorn Ottley added solid support with 42 not out, helping the Red Force secure their third victory in four matches and claim the top spot in the standings.
Meanwhile, at Queen’s Park Oval, the Guyana Harpy Eagles were again thwarted by persistent rain, which led to a no-result against the Jamaica Scorpions. Harpy Eagles were in a promising position, with the Scorpions struggling at 162-6 in the 42nd over when the downpour forced the match to a halt.
For Jamaica, Captain John Campbell contributed a brisk 53 from 65 balls with three fours and two sixes, while Jermaine Blackwood offered a steady 63 not out off 91 balls. The Scorpions’ efforts were kept in check by disciplined bowling from the Harpy Eagles, particularly Ashmead Nedd, who returned impressive figures of 2-23 from his 10-over spell. The washout marks the second time in the season that the Harpy Eagles have been denied a potential victory due to inclement weather.
