In London, Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson reaffirmed the significance of striker Jonson Clarke-Harris to the team’s strategy, despite his limited appearances on the pitch.
Clarke-Harris, who had been less frequently featured in starting line-ups since rejecting a transfer to Charlton Athletic during the January window, made a notable impact during the recent match against Burton Albion.
Although Clarke-Harris had been pivotal in setting up a goal and scoring another after coming off the bench in the 83rd minute, his playing time has diminished compared to previous seasons. Ferguson emphasized the importance of every player in the team and commended the contributions of substitutes, including Clarke-Harris, in securing the victory.
Despite being transfer-listed by Peterborough in the summer, Clarke-Harris remained at the club after a deadline-day move to Bristol Rovers fell through. While his role has evolved into that of a late substitute, Ferguson reiterated the striker’s credentials, highlighting his achievements as a two-time Golden Boot winner in League One.
“We’ve got him up our sleeve when we need him,” Ferguson stated, acknowledging Clarke-Harris’ potential impact on matches where opposing teams adopt defensive tactics. Despite the current playing style not entirely suiting Clarke-Harris, Ferguson expressed confidence in the striker’s ability to contribute effectively when called upon.
