Olympic anticipation builds for Caribbean athletes in Paris

PARIS, France — As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games track and field events approach, Caribbean athletes are filled with anticipation and hope.

Representing a range of disciplines, including the 100m, 400m, 800m, and decathlon, these athletes are eager to showcase the results of their hard work.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Shakeem McKay, debuting in the men’s 400m alongside Jereem Richards, described his Olympic experience as a “dream come true.” He emphasized staying focused and taking each day as it comes.

Cejhae Green of Antigua and Barbuda, competing in the 100m, also expressed readiness. “If you’re not ready by the time you get to the Olympic Village, then you’re in big trouble,” said Green, participating in his third Olympics.

Aiming to make history

Guyana’s Aliyah Abrams, aiming to make history in the women’s 400m, expressed her excitement: “The atmosphere and training have been great. I’m ready to give it my all and make the final,” said the three-time Olympian.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Shafiqua Maloney, competing in the women’s 800m, reflected on her growth since the Tokyo Games. “I have more experience now and am mentally and physically prepared. I’m here to chase a medal,” she noted.

Grenadian decathlete Lindon Victor aims to make his country proud in his third Olympics. “Competing hard and well is my priority, and a medal would be the cherry on top,” said Victor.

As these athletes gear up for their events, they carry the hopes of their nations, ready to strive for Olympic glory.
