Nicholls, Mathurin appointed independent directors of CWI

Barbadian businessman Hallam Nicholls and former Jamaica Ambassador Gail Mathurin have been appointed as independent directors of Cricket West Indies (CWI) for the first time.

They will be joined by former Guyana Tourism Minister Manniram Prashad and Trinidadian attorney Debra Coryat-Patton, both of whom have been reappointed for two-year terms.

“(Nicholls) is a businessman with tremendous experience in commercial affairs in Barbados,” said CWI president Dr Kishore Shallow, in announcing the appointments.

“(Mathurin) has been a Permanent Representative to the UN from Jamaica.”

Mathurin will bring extensive experience to the appointment, having served as director general of CARICOM’s Office of Trade Negotiations before demitting office two years ago.

A permanent representative to the World Trade Organization, Mathurin also served as a high commissioner to London.

Her appointment, along with that of Coryat-Patton’s, brings to two the number of women directors, and Shallow hailed the move as “historic”.

“This would be the very first time there are two females on the CWI board at the same time,” Shallow said.

“I believe this is consistent with our aim to bring more diversity to the boardroom of Cricket West Indies.”

Coryat-Patton, an experienced legal practitioner in employment law, intellectual property law, anti-money laundering, and diplomatic protocol, was first appointed in 2019.

Prashad, a former chairman of Cheddi Jagan International Airport and the Guyana National Shipping Corporation was first appointed in 2021.
