West Indies Test Captain Kraigg Brathwaite showcased his class with an unbeaten 129, guiding the Barbados Pride to a commanding position after day two of their 2024 West Indies Championship third-round fixture against the Jamaica Scorpions at Sabina Park.
Starting the day at 15-0 off seven overs, the Pride capitalized on their solid foundation to reach 315-6 off 97 overs at stumps, securing a 46-run lead over the hosts.
Brathwaite, who had struggled with just 27 runs from four innings earlier in the season, returned to form in style, batting with his trademark composure to compile his 129* off 290 balls, featuring 13 boundaries. Kevin Wickham provided valuable support with a well-crafted 63, his second half-century of the season, including six fours.
Pick of the Scorpions bowlers
Former West Indies wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich remained unbeaten at stumps with 19 runs to his name. Derval Green was the pick of the Scorpions bowlers, claiming 2-38 from 19 overs.
In the first innings, the Scorpions were bowled out for 269, with Romaine Morris top-scoring with an unbeaten 97. Jomel Warrican and Jair McAllister starred with the ball for the Pride, claiming five and three wickets, respectively.
As the Pride look to extend their lead on day three, Brathwaite’s commanding century has firmly placed his team in control of the encounter against the Scorpions.
