With just a day to go before the first Test between hosts England and the West Indies, fast-bowling sensation Shamar Joseph is eager to bowl at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, the venue for the opening fixture in the three-match series.
Joseph, who gained headlines earlier this year with a remarkable performance against Australia, helping the West Indies to a series draw in Brisbane, aims to replicate that success at Lord’s. The Guyanese speedster is determined to make a significant impact and etch his name into the history books once again.
“I am excited to be here as being at Lord’s everyone trains to be at this ground. England is known for good fast bowling and swing, so I am excited, and I will put my name on the Lord’s honours board for sure,” Joseph expressed with enthusiasm.
Leading the pace attack
With the experienced pacer Kemar Roach sidelined due to injury, much is expected of Joseph, along with fellow pacers Alzarri Joseph and Trinidadian Jayden Seales, to spearhead the West Indies’ pace attack. Despite the unfamiliarity of the venue, Joseph is ready to rise to the challenge.
“Anywhere that you go, once you have never played there before, there will be challenges, but it is all about how fast you can adjust, and I am looking forward to that challenge,” he stated confidently.
For Joseph, playing at Lord’s is a dream come true, having watched many fiercely contested battles between England and Australia at the historic ground.
“Watching the Ashes and seeing guys like Jofra Archer and Mitchell Starc do well is something I want to come out and do as well,” he shared.
Spoiling the farewell party
The first Test on July 10 has been earmarked as the farewell match for England’s legendary seam bowler, James Anderson. Despite the occasion, Joseph is determined to spoil Anderson’s farewell.
“Definitely, I want to rain on his parade. He is such an amazing player, someone I look up to, and is very good at this level, actually perfect. But I want to ruin that farewell,” Joseph declared.
