In an official statement released on Friday, the JFF highlighted Shaw’s significant impact on the Manchester City club, noting that she secured 53 percent of the votes to clinch the prestigious Player of the Year title. The federation emphasized Shaw’s consistent performance on the field as a testament to her exceptional talent and dedication.

JFF President Michael Ricketts expressed his delight at Shaw’s recognition, describing the award as a “beautiful feather in her cap” and a momentous occasion for Jamaican football. Ricketts praised Shaw’s consistency and noted her elevated standard of play throughout the season, foreseeing positive implications for the national team’s future success. He also extended well wishes to Shaw for a speedy recovery from her recent injury.

21 goals and providing three assists in 18 games

Shaw’s outstanding contributions to Manchester City’s campaign this season are evident, with the Reggae Girls captain scoring 21 goals and providing three assists in 18 games before sustaining a broken foot in her last Women’s Super League match against West Ham.

Notably, Shaw’s achievement marks a historic moment for Jamaican football, as she becomes the first national representative to receive the esteemed Player of the Year award. Previous Jamaican-born recipients, including John Barnes and Raheem Sterling, attained the honor during their tenure as England internationals.

As Shaw continues her journey in football, the JFF stands proud of her accomplishments and looks forward to witnessing her continued success both on and off the field.
