Jamaica Scorpions aim to overcome 234-run challenge on final day against WI Academy

The Jamaica Scorpions are poised for a thrilling final day today at Sabina Park as they set their sights on chasing down a target of 234 runs to defeat the West Indies Academy in their West Indies Championship match.

With 90 overs at their disposal, the Scorpions will aim to secure victory in what promises to be an exciting run chase.

On the third day of the match, the Scorpions extended their overnight total of 326 to gain a crucial 48-run lead before dismissing the West Indies Academy side for 281 in their second innings. Leg-spinner Abhijai Mansingh led the charge for the Scorpions with four wickets for 70 runs, supported by off-spinner Peat Salmon, who claimed three wickets for 55 runs.

Carlon Bowen-Tuckett top-scored

Wicketkeeper-batsman Carlon Bowen-Tuckett top-scored for the West Indies Academy with 53 runs, while opener Kadeem Alleyne contributed 52 runs. Lower-order batters Joshua James and Ashmead Nedd also made useful contributions with scores of 36 and 30, respectively.

In their first innings, the Jamaica Scorpions saw Peat Salmon adding 21 runs to his overnight score of 60, while Derval Green made a valuable contribution of 35 runs. Left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies Academy, finishing with six wickets for 96 runs.

Meanwhile, in other matches, Hurricanes require 301 runs to win against Combined Campuses and Colleges Marooners, Pride need 312 for victory against Guyana Harpy Eagles, and Red Force need 176 runs with eight wickets remaining against Windward Islands Volcanoes.
