Kingstown, St. Vincent – Dominant bowling performances from Joshua Davis of Trinidad and Tobago and Mavendra Dindyal of Guyana marked the opening matches of the West Indies Men’s Under-19 Super50 Championship on Tuesday.
Davis’s five-wicket haul propelled T&T to a 31-run victory over the Leeward Islands, while Dindyal’s impressive figures helped Guyana secure a 13-run win against the defending champions Jamaica in rain-affected matches.
At Arnos Vale, Guyana’s pacer Golcharran Chulai and Isai Thorne provided solid support to Dindyal, contributing to the dismissal of Jamaica for 162 runs in 34.1 overs. Chulai took two wickets for 29 runs from 5.1 overs, while Thorne, a notable West Indies Under-19 pacer, claimed two wickets for 39 runs from nine overs. Jamaica’s captain, Brian Barnes, top-scored with 59 runs from 68 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes, while opener Adrian Weir added 35 runs.
Earlier, Guyana’s opener Rampertab Ramnauth anchored the innings with 45 runs, overcoming the disruptive spells of Jamaican pacers Odel Samuels and Tamarie Redwood. Samuels took four wickets for 19 runs in his 10-over spell, and Redwood captured three wickets for 31 runs in his 10 overs. Contributions from Riyad Latiff (25 runs), Thaddeus Lovell (23 runs), and Isai Thorne (21 runs) helped Guyana reach a total of 175 runs in 49.5 overs.
T&T triumphs over Leewards
At Sion Hill, Joshua Davis was the standout bowler for Trinidad and Tobago, taking five wickets for 20 runs from 6.4 overs. Fellow pacer Fareez Ali supported with three wickets for 10 runs from six overs, as the Leeward Islands were bowled out for 77 runs in 29.4 overs, chasing T&T’s total of 108 runs in 39.4 overs. West Indies Under-19 wicketkeeper-batsman Jewel Andrew top-scored for the Leewards with 33 runs, but no other batsman reached 20.
Earlier, Andrew Rambarran, batting at number six, hit 39 runs, guiding T&T to a defendable total despite steady bowling from the Leewards, led by Israel Morton and Michael Palmer.
At Park Hill, the match between the Windward Islands and Barbados ended in a no-result due to rain. The Barbadians were 72 for two in 10.1 overs, replying to the Windwards’ 192 runs from 44.4 overs when the rain intervened. Windwards’ Theo Edward top-scored with 55 runs, supported by Stephan Pascal with 41 runs and Kirsten Murray with 23 runs. Barbadian pacer Jatario Prescod took three wickets for 33 runs from 4.4 overs, while spinners Preston Clarke and Saurav Worrell claimed two wickets each.
