Williams, 29, and Beckford, 26, entered the fray as substitutes and made significant impacts, each finding the back of the net during the match. However, their contributions were not enough to secure victory for Hartford Athletic, as NYC FC II clinched a 3-2 win in extra time at Trinity Health Stadium.

Hartford Athletic dominated possession and attacking play in the first half, but they were unable to capitalize on their chances, despite putting four shots on target and recording 20 touches in the New York box.

New York City FC II took the lead in the 63rd minute through Taylor Calheira, but Hartford responded swiftly. Williams drew a penalty in the 79th minute and confidently converted it to level the scoreline.

A tense and bad-tempered encounter

In extra time, Beckford showcased his prowess with an excellent individual effort, scoring a goal to give Hartford the lead. However, NYC FC II fought back, equalizing through Calheira’s header in the 99th minute.

The decisive moment came in the second period of extra time when Maximo Carrizo netted the match-winner for NYC FC II, securing victory despite Hartford’s resilient efforts.

The match was not without controversy, as Beckford was one of three players who were sent off in a tense and bad-tempered encounter.

Despite the disappointment, Hartford Athletic can take pride in the performances of Williams and Beckford, who demonstrated their quality on the field.
