Jones’s success over the past six years at Louisville can be attributed to Coach Busboom Kelly’s effective coaching ability, which extends beyond wins and losses. Busboom Kelly is dedicated to the holistic development of her athletes, fostering a sense of belonging, positive moral values, and ethical growth.

The unique bond between Jones and Coach Busboom Kelly led to Jones’s decision to stay at Louisville for a sixth year. In this additional year, she has continued to excel as a graduate student and team captain, earning a spot on the All-ACC volleyball team for the fifth time.

Unwavering commitment

Jones values the opportunity to grow personally and athletically within the Louisville program. She appreciates the culture that Coach Busboom Kelly has built, which goes beyond the volleyball court. Jones’s commitment to Louisville and her trust in her coach have been unwavering.

The two initially crossed paths when Coach Busboom Kelly had Jones attend a volleyball camp at the University of Nebraska, where she was an assistant coach. When Busboom Kelly became the head coach at the University of Louisville, Jones, a graduate of Wolmer’s Girls School and the University of the West Indies, was among her first recruits.

Jones’s transition from Jamaica to the United States presented challenges, but she embraced them, recognizing her potential for growth in volleyball. Her determination to overcome intimidation and work harder fueled her journey.

Love for Louisville

The player-coach relationship between Jones and Coach Busboom Kelly has evolved in tandem with the Cardinals’ growth as a national volleyball powerhouse. Their mutual trust and commitment have contributed to the team’s success, including back-to-back final four appearances.

Jones’s love for Louisville and the sense of family she has found within the program have been instrumental in her decision to stay and continue her collegiate volleyball career.

Coach Busboom Kelly echoed Jones’s sentiments, emphasizing the value of having an athlete who not only excels physically but also loves the university and the culture they have built together.
