Jamaica has been chosen by FIFA to participate in its Talent Coach Programme, selected from 158 FIFA Member Associations that applied.
This initiative is part of FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS), aimed at actively supporting Member Associations (MAs) on the ground. The program seeks to enhance elite youth player development by increasing the interaction time for the most talented players in the country and providing guidance, advice, and mentoring to local coaches working directly with these players.
FIFA will provide funding for the Head of Jamaica’s National Academy, Dan Cooke, for a two-year period, as well as support for the Talent Coach Project. This marks a significant milestone for Jamaica’s football, as it seeks to overhaul its youth national program. The National Academy will cater to boys and girls aged between 12 and 16 years.

John Wall, Head of Talent Identification at the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), expressed his enthusiasm for the development. “I’m extremely happy about this development. What this means is that we can create the best possible environment to generate improvement. I hope we can set a new benchmark on how to develop our domestic talent and create the best possible environment for both boys and girls. Our aim is to create an environment that nurtures future Champions League winners and World Cup winners. It’s about time that Jamaica begins to fulfil its potential,” concluded Wall.
The JFF is currently engaged in a rigorous talent identification process that will continue until the end of December.
