This milestone concludes a meticulous sales process orchestrated by Digicel Group Holdings Limited (DGHL), the tournament’s previous majority shareholder, in partnership with independent advisors Oakwell Sports Advisory.

The transition marks a significant step in the CPL’s evolution, as O’Brien’s leadership promises stability and growth for one of the region’s most celebrated sporting events.

As part of the sale, DGHL and its board of independent directors conducted an exhaustive process to identify a new owner for CSIL. The outcome solidifies O’Brien’s unwavering commitment to Caribbean cricket, having been a pivotal figure in the league’s journey since its inception in 2013.

The leadership of the CPL has expressed excitement over the league’s future under O’Brien’s stewardship. Richard Bevan OBE, Chairman of the CPL, lauded the league’s remarkable rise, calling it the “best-attended sporting event in the region.” He added, “Denis’s full ownership ensures continuity and support for the management team. We are eager to work with Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dr. Kishore Shallow, the CWI board, and stakeholders to unlock new opportunities for the extraordinary cricketing talent in the Caribbean.”

Echoing these sentiments, Pete Russell, CEO of the CPL, credited O’Brien with playing a foundational role in the league’s success. “Denis has been integral to the CPL since its launch. His decision to take full ownership underscores his faith in the future of cricket in the Caribbean and the vital role CPL will play in that future,” said Russell.

New opportunities for Caribbean cricket talent anticipated

O’Brien himself expressed a heartfelt commitment to the Caribbean and its vibrant communities. “I have a deep love for the Caribbean and its people, and it’s thrilling to see how the CPL unites local communities,” he stated. “I am committed to ensuring the tournament continues to make a positive economic and cultural impact in the host countries while serving as a platform to develop future cricket stars and shine a positive light on the Caribbean.”

With O’Brien at the helm, the CPL is poised to cement its status as a cultural and sporting phenomenon, showcasing Caribbean cricket talent to the world.
