The West Indies’ batsmen had a productive outing, with Joshua Da Silva stealing the spotlight by completing a century, while Kavem Hodge fell just short of his own milestone, contributing significantly to the team’s preparations. West Indies declared their second innings at 315 for five on the last day of the match at Karen Rolton Oval.

Da Silva, who was promoted to open the batting, took full advantage of the opportunity, scoring an impressive 105 runs. His innings was marked by 15 boundaries, showcasing his superb form with the bat. Hodge, on the other hand, showcased his patient approach by amassing 99 runs, striking 13 boundaries in his innings.

Substantial partnership of 163 runs

The pair combined for a substantial partnership of 163 runs for the fourth wicket, underlining their readiness for the upcoming Test series against Australia.

Off-spinner Kevin Sinclair also made a strong case for his inclusion in the Test squad, claiming three wickets for 38 runs from his 12 overs. His performance added depth to the West Indies’ bowling options.

The practice match served as the sole contest for the West Indies before they face the reigning World champions, Australia, in a challenging two-Test series. The series is scheduled to commence on the upcoming Wednesday at the Adelaide Oval, followed by the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane on January 25.

Satisfaction

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in the practice match, highlighting the outstanding facilities and the valuable experience gained by the players, particularly those making their debut in Australia.

Brathwaite stressed the importance of sharing knowledge and experiences among the team members, including insights on facing different bowling spells and adapting to pitch conditions. He praised the team’s readiness and looked forward to making the West Indian supporters proud in the upcoming series.

Da Silva’s dominant century and Hodge’s composed batting have certainly bolstered West Indies’ confidence as they prepare to face the formidable Australian side in the upcoming Test series.
