St. John’s, Antigua – In a strategic move poised to bolster cricketing excellence, Dwaine Gill, a seasoned administrator and former Cricket West Indies (CWI) director, has been named the organization’s new High-Performance Manager, succeeding Graeme West, who stepped down on September 30.
Gill, celebrated for his pivotal contributions to cricket in the Caribbean, brings a wealth of experience to the position. Formerly the president of both the Windward Islands Cricket Board and the Grenada Cricket Association, his administrative acumen has been instrumental in shaping regional cricket.
His most notable achievement on the field includes managing the West Indies Under-19 team, which captured the ICC 2016 World Cup title in a stunning display of young talent and discipline.
A blend of vision and expertise
Gill’s extensive academic background adds another layer of sophistication to his leadership. Holding both a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, he is expected to leverage his strategic insights to enhance the region’s high-performance framework.
His appointment follows the exit of Graeme West, who served CWI with distinction for over a decade. West, credited with establishing the High-Performance Centre at Cave Hill, Barbados, in 2012, has transitioned to his new role as Cricket Ireland’s Director of High Performance.
As Gill steps into this influential role, the cricketing fraternity is abuzz with optimism. His familiarity with the inner workings of CWI and his deep-rooted connection to Caribbean cricket uniquely position him to elevate the High-Performance Unit.
West’s tenure was marked by significant advancements, and his legacy provides a robust platform for Gill. As the cricketing world evolves, the High-Performance Unit is expected to spearhead the development of players capable of excelling on the global stage.
Charting a new path forward
With this transition, CWI remains committed to nurturing talent and solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse in world cricket. The leadership of Gill, coupled with his proven track record, is anticipated to reinvigorate high-performance programs and drive future successes.
As regional cricket continues its trajectory of growth, stakeholders are eager to see how Gill will blend innovation and tradition to foster the next generation of West Indies cricketing stars.
