Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, revealed during a CWI news conference in Bridgetown that CWI and organizers of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) are working together to establish a regional T20 tournament for emerging talents. Bascombe emphasized the importance of discovering and grooming promising T20 players who could represent the West Indies on the global stage.

Acknowledging that the CPL may not always serve as the platform for unearthing new stars, Bascombe highlighted the need for a dedicated avenue to identify emerging T20 talents. He expressed confidence in the potential success of such a tournament, especially as the West Indies prepares to host the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Part of CWI’s broader development initiatives

The proposed T20 tournament forms part of CWI’s broader development initiatives aimed at revitalizing cricket in the Caribbean. Bascombe outlined a comprehensive strategy that includes the establishment of pathways for both men’s and women’s players to progress to the international level.

For men’s cricket, CWI has structured pathways starting from the Under-15 level, with plans to bolster the Under-23 program to address existing gaps. On the women’s side, Bascombe stressed the importance of capturing talent at a younger age to elevate the region’s standing in women’s cricket globally.

To achieve these goals, CWI is collaborating with coaches across the territories to ensure alignment in playing style and performance standards across different formats. Bascombe emphasized the organization’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a culture of excellence in Caribbean cricket.
