Cricket West Indies (CWI) has taken a significant step toward improving its governance structure by initiating a comprehensive reform process, guided by the recommendations of the Wehby Report from 2020.
The announcement was made by CWI President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, during a media conference held in Antigua on Monday.
This decision stems from a board meeting held on September 23, where the primary focus was the Wehby Report’s implications and potential for positive change. The report, authored by Jamaican Senator Don Wehby and a five-man committee, was commissioned to explore strategies to bolster stakeholder trust, transparency, and accountability within the organization.
The need for increased efficiency, transparency and accountability
Dr. Shallow stressed the vital importance of governance reform, acknowledging the need for increased efficiency, transparency, and accountability within CWI. He stated, “The Wehby Report offers us a roadmap to a more efficient, transparent, and accountable organization. We are committed to delivering on this commitment, ensuring that CWI operates at its full potential and sets a standard for good governance in the cricketing world.”
Crucially, the governance reform process will be an inclusive and transparent endeavor, with input solicited from all parties invested in the future of West Indian cricket. Dr. Shallow emphasized the significance of shareholder involvement in shaping CWI’s direction, highlighting the forthcoming engagement with territorial boards as a crucial step in the process.
A CWI media release underscored the organization’s objectives, which include enhancing efficiency, financial stability, and its overall impact on the global cricketing landscape. CWI remains unwavering in its mission to inspire, unite, and develop cricket throughout the Caribbean, as it embarks on this transformational journey towards improved governance and greater success in the cricketing world.
