MIAMI, United States — CONCACAF has announced a major expansion of its women’s football competitions over the next four years as part of a larger strategy to elevate the sport in the region.
Beginning in 2025, CONCACAF will introduce new tournaments and enhance existing ones to provide more consistent opportunities for women’s national teams to compete internationally.
In a press release Monday, the governing body revealed a revamped schedule of women’s national team events for the 2025-2029 cycle, which builds on recent initiatives like the inaugural Women’s Gold Cup and the newly launched CONCACAF Women’s Club Competition. These changes come as part of the broader effort to strengthen women’s football across all 41 member associations.
Key competitions
Key competitions will include the Women’s Qualifiers and the Women’s Championship, which will determine qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Summer Olympic Games. Additionally, CONCACAF will debut a Women’s Nations League and stage the second edition of the Women’s Gold Cup.
CONCACAF President and FIFA Vice-President Victor Montagliani expressed optimism about the new competition structure. “These tournaments will provide a tremendous boost to women’s football in CONCACAF,” Montagliani said. “The consistent calendar of events from 2025 to 2029 will give every federation in our region the opportunity to grow and thrive both on and off the field.”
Montagliani reflected on the significant progress made in the last five years, citing six national teams from the region qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the success of numerous coaching and development programs. However, he acknowledged there is more work to be done. “We remain committed to supporting our member federations in advancing all levels of women’s football,” he added.
