Barbados Pride reinforced as Chase returns for regional Super50 semi-final

Bridgetown, Barbados – The Barbados Pride have received a significant boost with the inclusion of seasoned West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase in their squad for the Regional Super50 semifinal showdown against defending champions Trinidad & Tobago Red Force on Wednesday.

The high-stakes encounter is set to unfold at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, with both teams vying for a coveted spot in the final.

Chase’s return comes on the heels of his participation in the recently concluded West Indies series against England, where he showcased his skills in both the One Day International (ODI) and T20I formats. His vast experience and ability to deliver under pressure are expected to be instrumental as the Pride aim to avenge their nine-wicket loss to the Red Force in their last encounter.

However, the Pride will have to adapt to the absence of two key players—captain Kyle Mayers and rising talent Kadeem Clarke—both of whom have been granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to participate in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament scheduled from November 21 to December 3, 2024.

Leadership and squad adjustments

In the wake of Mayers’ departure, Raymon Reifer has been entrusted with the captaincy for the remainder of the tournament. Additionally, Shian Brathwaite, a promising talent, has been called up to bolster the squad.

The Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) issued an official statement confirming the roster changes: “The national selection panel has confirmed that Roston Chase and Shian Brathwaite will join the Barbados Pride squad as replacement players for Kadeem Alleyne and Kyle Mayers, respectively. Both Alleyne and Mayers were granted NOCs to participate in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament.

“Raymon Reifer has been appointed captain for the remainder of the CG United CWI Regional Super50 tournament being held in Trinidad & Tobago.”

The Pride face a daunting task against a formidable Red Force side that dominated their previous top-of-the-table clash with a comprehensive victory. Despite this, the addition of Chase offers renewed hope for Barbados. His multifaceted skill set—sharp bowling, steady batting, and athletic fielding—makes him a valuable asset in high-pressure matches.

Reifer, now leading the charge, is expected to rally the team with his experience and tactical acumen. The combination of seasoned campaigners like Chase and Reifer, alongside fresh talent such as Brathwaite, presents a well-rounded squad eager to seize the moment.

The semi-final marks an opportunity for the Pride to rewrite the script against their rivals and stake their claim for the Regional Super50 crown. Fans are bracing for an intense contest as the Pride aim to channel their collective strength to topple the defending champions on their home turf.

As the cricketing world turns its attention to Tarouba, the stage is set for a thrilling battle of skill, strategy, and sheer determination.
