ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Veteran cricket administrator Azim Bassarath expressed his excitement at being re-elected as the vice-president of Cricket West Indies (CWI), following a Special Meeting of Members held Friday in Antigua.
Bassarath, who also serves as the president of the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), was re-elected unopposed. His candidacy was supported by both the Jamaica Cricket Association and the Leeward Islands Cricket Board.
In a statement following his re-election, the 52-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for continuing his work in West Indies cricket administration. His return to the position comes after stepping down last month due to a ruling by the Guyana High Court that deemed his March 2023 election flawed.

“I’m excited to return to my duties for the good of West Indies cricket, working alongside my dedicated colleagues at Cricket West Indies,” Bassarath remarked.
Since Dr. Kishore Shallow assumed the presidency in March 2023, Bassarath noted the strides made in the T20 format, emphasizing his determination to extend these successes into other international formats.
“I have committed and remain committed to serving with integrity and respect for the process, while upholding the best governance practices,” he added.
A vote of confidence
Bassarath also viewed his re-election as a vote of confidence, enabling the organization to continue the business of cricket under Dr. Shallow’s leadership, focusing on delivering the results that stakeholders and fans across the region and globally desire.
All territorial boards, with the exception of the Guyana Cricket Board, attended the special meeting, which reaffirmed CWI’s commitment to democratic principles and transparency in governance.
CWI’s next quarterly board meeting is scheduled for September 28, 2024, in Trinidad and Tobago, where Bassarath and his colleagues will continue shaping the future of West Indies cricket.
