At the Conaree Cricket Centre, Mohammed’s unbeaten century, comprising 10 fours, alongside Tion Webster’s 50, propelled Red Force to 215 for four against defending champions Guyana Harpy Eagles. Despite early setbacks, Red Force stabilized after Mohammed and Webster’s 115-run partnership, guided by smart batting strategies.

Meanwhile, at Sabina Park, Volcanoes’ dominance was highlighted by John’s five-wicket haul, dismissing Jamaica Scorpions for 159. Springer’s contribution with three wickets further enhanced Volcanoes’ stronghold, limiting Scorpions’ progress.

Joshua James’ three-wicket haul

In a separate encounter at Warner Park, Joshua James’ three-wicket haul aided Cricket West Indies Academy in restricting Leeward Islands Hurricanes to 137. Off-spinner Ashmead Nedd and pacer Johann Layne also played pivotal roles in the Academy’s commendable bowling display.

However, unfortunate circumstances led to the abandonment of play between Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners and Barbados Pride at Chedwin Park due to a ruptured water main, resulting in a soaked outfield. Despite the setback, teams are reassured of prompt action to address the issue for the scheduled second day.

The opening matches showcased a blend of talent and determination, setting a promising tone for the forthcoming matches in the West Indies Championship 2024 season.
