World champions headline Yangtze Delta Athletics Diamond Gala

The upcoming World Athletics Diamond League meet scheduled for April 27 in China promises an electrifying showdown as world champion sprint hurdler Danielle Williams prepares to face off against newly minted World Indoor champion Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas and another formidable global champion.

Organizers announced yesterday that three reigning global women’s world champions in the sprint hurdles - all hailing from the Caribbean - will compete head-to-head at the Yangtze Delta Athletics Diamond Gala. The trio includes Charlton, Williams, and Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico.

Charlton, eyeing her first Diamond League victory this season, aims to transition her world-beating indoor form into the outdoor season. The 28-year-old Bahamian shattered the world indoor 60 meters hurdles record twice earlier this year, clocking 7.67 seconds at the Millrose Games in New York City and then 7.65 seconds to secure gold at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Reclaimed the world title last year in Budapest

Williams, aged 31, reclaimed the world title last year in Budapest, Hungary, eight years after her initial global gold in Beijing, China. In addition to her World Championships victories, she was crowned a Diamond League champion five years ago.

Camacho-Quinn, aged 27, boasts a robust track record in the Diamond League, clinching no fewer than nine victories on the circuit over the past three years. The Olympic 100 meters hurdles champion and world silver medalist will aim for her first career Diamond League trophy this year.

The Suzhou-Shanghai meeting, along with the season opener in Xiamen on April 20, will mark the second of two events in China launching the Diamond League season.
