Windies still 8th on ICC Test rankings

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that the West Indies are firmly rooted in eighth place in the latest rankings released on Tuesday.

The former global champions are listed on 76 points and are ahead of only Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Long gone are those former glory days when the West Indies ruled the roost. Last year they won just three of the seven Test matches played and they have hardly fared any better this season, edging Zimbabwe 1-0 in a two-match tour of Bulawayo, after which they were beaten 2-0 away to South Africa.

The ranking is led by India, who have returned to the top ahead of Australia in the latest calculations which reflects games completed since May 2020.

India improved to 121 points by moving up two places, while the Aussies lost six points to 116.

Coincidentally, the two teams will meet in the final of the ICC World Test Championship to be played at The Oval in England bowling off on June 7.

England are in third place on 114 points, followed by South Africa on 104, New Zealand on 100, Pakistan on 86, and Sri Lanka on 84.
