West Indies "A" batsman Shaqkere Parris has been released on bail after being formally charged with battery in connection with an alleged incident at a hotel in Antigua, where he has been staying with the West Indies Academy squad.

The 22-year-old Barbadian is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate's Court on Friday morning, where the misdemeanor matter will begin its legal course.

Parris has been in Antigua following the Academy team's recent tour of Sri Lanka, but his immediate cricketing future is now uncertain as the legal proceedings take priority.

Allegation centers on hotel dispute

According to reports from the Antigua Observer, the complaint stems from an alleged altercation involving a taxi driver at the team's hotel.

Authorities have charged Parris with battery, an offense classified as a summary misdemeanor. If convicted, the matter is expected to result in a financial penalty rather than a custodial sentence.

No additional details surrounding the alleged incident have been released publicly.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) acknowledged the situation in a brief statement issued Wednesday evening but refrained from discussing the specifics of the case.

"CWI is aware of reports involving Shaqkere Parris in Antigua and Barbuda," the governing body said.

The organization added that, because the matter is now before the courts, it would be inappropriate to provide any further comment while the legal process is ongoing.

Uncertainty over playing future

Parris has emerged as one of the region's promising young right-handed batters and has earned regular selection in West Indies developmental programs, including the West Indies "A" team and the West Indies Academy.

However, with court proceedings now underway, it remains unclear how the case will affect his immediate cricketing commitments.

The matter is expected to come before the Magistrate's Court on Friday as the legal process continues.
