The university urged individuals who may have interacted with the site to be cautious of follow-up communications claiming to represent UWI and advised them not to share additional personal or financial information in response to unsolicited messages. It also encouraged verification of all communications through official university channels.
Prospective students and stakeholders were reminded that legitimate information on programmes, admissions and partnerships is available only through official UWI platforms, including its regional and campus websites.
UWI said it has launched a coordinated response, including reporting the matter to international cyber and law enforcement authorities, pursuing legal and technical action to have the website removed, and working with partners to reduce potential harm.
Individuals who may have interacted with the site or have relevant information have been urged to contact the university at oadmin@uwi.edu.
The university said it remains committed to protecting students, partners and its institutional reputation, and will continue taking steps to address the issue.
