Sprint legend Usain Bolt has brought cheers to graduates of his alma mater, Waldensia Primary and Infant School, with a JMD$1.7 million donation to the 2026 graduating class.
The contribution was revealed during the school leaving ceremony held last week at Waldensia Baptist Church, where students, parents, and teachers gathered to celebrate the occasion.
According to school officials, each graduating child will receive $100,000 as part of the donation. The announcement was met with loud applause and celebration from the audience, with reactions captured in a video shared online.
“Usain Bolt is celebrated not only as one of the greatest sprinters but for his remarkable benevolence and generosity,” a school official said during the ceremony, adding that he has consistently used his platform to uplift others.
“His acts of kindness demonstrate that true greatness is measured not only by personal achievements but also the willingness to make a positive difference in the lives of others,” the official added. “Usain Bolt’s compassion, humility and commitment to helping those in need continues to inspire those around the world, reminding us that success is most meaningful when it is shared with others.”
Bolt’s mother, Jennifer Bolt, attended the ceremony and was said to have played an important role in supporting efforts to secure the donation, according to school officials.
Following the event, Bolt shared a message of encouragement for the students on Facebook, congratulating the graduates for their academic achievement.
“Congrats to all 17 students from Waldensia Primary School in my hometown of Sherwood on passing their PEP exams. Keep making your parents and community proud,” he wrote.
The donation adds to Bolt’s long record of philanthropy and support for education and youth development initiatives in Jamaica.
