Miled Gamil Boutros, 51, appeared before Chief Magistrate Candia Carette George at the Castle Bruce Magistrate Court on Tuesday. He is accused of kidnapping and attempting to murder 49-year-old Egyptian national Ahmed Sheref between March 24 and April 4 in the community of Belle Fille, Castle Bruce, on Dominica’s east coast.

According to police and court officials, Sheref is currently being treated at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital for injuries allegedly sustained during the attack. Authorities said he was shot and left severely injured.
Sources in Castle Bruce told Dominica News Online that Sheref managed to escape and was found by a neighbor around 5:00 a.m. after he stumbled into the garden area of a nearby home asking for water. The neighbor contacted emergency services immediately upon realizing the extent of his injuries.
Boutros, identified in court as an Egyptian-American, remains in custody pending further proceedings.
