A suspected undocumented migrant was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Thursday morning after a driver fleeing from federal agents crashed into a pole in Homestead. A second individual remains at large.

According to Homestead Police, the crash occurred at the intersection of West Mowery Drive and Northwest Ninth Avenue. ICE officials said the incident began when agents attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle, but the driver sped off at a high rate of speed.

The fleeing vehicle crashed into a building, knocking down a light pole and prompting a full closure of the intersection. No injuries were reported.

Video footage from the scene showed emergency crews loading the heavily damaged vehicle onto a tow truck.

Although ICE agents did not pursue the vehicle during the attempted stop, they arrived at the crash site shortly after and detained one of the occupants, who was confirmed to be undocumented.

The driver—who ICE said was the intended target—fled the scene with another passenger and remains on the run. The investigation is ongoing.
