Two Indonesians killed, four foreigners injured in Guyana crash

Two Indonesian nationals were killed and four other foreign nationals injured in a three-vehicle collision along the Timehri Public Road in Guyana early Friday morning.

Police said the crash occurred at approximately 3:51 a.m. along the East Bank Demerara roadway and involved a motor lorry and two minibuses.

The two people killed were identified as Indonesian nationals Edy Ansyori Sukri and Ikomang Tedy Arsa Bantara Putra. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the lorry, driven by a 36-year-old resident of Land of Canaan, was travelling south along the eastern driving lane when it allegedly swerved southwest at a fast rate of speed and collided with a minibus travelling north along the western driving lane.

The lorry subsequently collided with a second minibus, which had been travelling behind the first.

Sukri and Putra were among several passengers travelling in the second minibus.

Four other foreign nationals in the vehicle were injured and transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they remained under medical care. Police did not immediately disclose their nationalities or the extent of their injuries.

All three vehicles sustained extensive damage in the collision.

A Guyana Defence Force ambulance and Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene.

Police said investigators searched for eyewitnesses and CCTV footage of the collision but were unable to locate any.

The scene and vehicles were photographed by a crime scene investigator, while a Licensing and Certifying Officer conducted examinations of the vehicles involved.

The bodies of Sukri and Putra were taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home pending post-mortem examinations.

Police said the drivers of all three vehicles underwent breathalyser tests, with no alcohol detected.

The drivers remained in police custody as investigations into the fatal crash continued.
