Two men have been arrested in connection to the April 2023 murder of 35 year old Leayle Powell.

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit announce the arrests of 21-year-old Brian Skipper and 19-year-old Keon Collins.

According to BSO investigators around 5pm on April 27, 2020 deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to an area near 7400 block of Kimberly Boulevard after receiving reports of a shooting. When emergency crews arrived on scene, they located Leayle Powell behind a building suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Powell was airlifted to Broward Health North by BSO Fire Rescue and pronounced deceased.

Ring camera video, still images, and surveillance video of the vehicle and suspects involved were previously released to the public in hopes of garnering information that would lead to an arrest.

Surveillance video of the shooting showed three individuals walking toward an apartment complex. A few minutes later, after gunshots are heard, the subjects are then captured on video running from the location and entering a red Honda Accord with stock rims.

Through investigative means, BSO Homicide detectives identified Skipper and Collins as two of the suspects involved. The duo was taken into custody on Wednesday, July 10, at separate locations, by BSO VIPER (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) and Fugitive Units. They each face one count of first-degree murder.
