Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) emerged victorious against Guyana with a 2-1 win in the first of two international friendlies held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Monday night.
Debutants Ezekiel Kesar and Kevon Woodley were the stars of the match, each finding the back of the net to secure the win for T&T.
Kesar opened the scoring for the home team in the 28th minute, capitalizing on a well-weighted through ball to send a low finish past the Guyanese goalkeeper. Woodley doubled T&T’s lead six minutes before halftime, calmly slotting the ball into the net from 10 yards out after receiving a precise pass from Kesar.
A defensive error
Guyana responded quickly in the second half, with Kelsey Benjamin taking advantage of a defensive error to score in the 47th minute. Despite their efforts, Guyana was unable to find the equalizer, and the match ended 2-1 in favor of T&T.
Despite the win, T&T head coach Angus Eve expressed disappointment with his team's overall performance, particularly in the second half. "I was disappointed to be fair. I thought it was a game of two halves," said Eve. "In the first half, we did what we really wanted to do, what we practised, and we should have probably scored a lot more goals.
In the second half, I was disappointed in the quality on the ball, especially after making changes and introducing some younger players."
T&T dominated possession in the early stages of the match, but Guyana nearly took the lead in the 26th minute when defender Robert Primus blocked a shot from Darron Niles. Moments later, T&T took control, with Kesar and Woodley combining effectively to establish a two-goal lead.
