T&T police officer on bail for alleged panty theft

A 48-year-old police officer in Trinidad and Tobago is due to return to court in January next year after he was released on TT$200,000 on a charge of stealing six panties from the US-owned PriceSmart store in the town of Chaguanas.

Sergeant Rauff Hosein,  pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny when he appeared before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie in the Chaguanas on Tuesday.

The court heard that the theft allegedly occurred last Friday and that the six panties were valued at TT$107.95.

The police officer, who has more than 25-years of service will return to court on January 28 next year.

Police were called to the store after an employee allegedly saw Hosein pick up the items, place them in his pants and walked out of the store without paying.

He was confronted by security officers and was later arrested by two of his colleagues and charged.
