Picault puts Haiti ahead
Haiti controlled the opening stages, enjoying about 70 percent possession during the first 10 minutes.
Trinidad and Tobago created the first clear opportunity in the 14th minute when Daniel Phillips sent Ryan Telfer through with a ball over the top. Telfer won a corner, but Haiti continued to dominate possession.
The visitors went ahead in the 22nd minute when Fabrice Picault headed home from close range after Trinidad and Tobago lost possession.
The Warriors responded nine minutes later.
Rio Cardines delivered a deep diagonal free kick, and Wayne Frederick II met it on the half-volley to level the score at 1-1.
Garcia puts Warriors in front
Trinidad and Tobago completed the turnaround in the 58th minute.
Frederick picked out Levi Garcia with a perceptive pass, and the captain lifted a lob over Haiti goalkeeper Alexandre Pierre to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
Haiti had introduced Jean Bellegarde for Carl Sainte moments earlier in an attacking substitution.
The visitors continued to press for an equalizer, with Wilson Isidor hitting both posts in the 78th minute.
Haiti also came close when Hannes Delcroix’s downward header from a Bellegarde cross was kept out by goalkeeper Brice.
Haiti strike twice after 90 minutes
Trinidad and Tobago were forced into several changes during the match, including injury substitutions for central defender Josiah Trimmingham and goalkeeper Denzil Smith.
As the game entered stoppage time, Haiti increased the pressure with a succession of crosses into the penalty area.
Their persistence finally paid off in the second minute of added time.
Ruben Providence headed Kenny Quetant’s cross into the path of Garven-Michee Metusala, who finished from close range to make it 2-2.
The Warriors appeared to have survived the remaining stoppage time, but Haiti produced one final attack.
After the score remained level beyond six minutes of added time, Bellegarde delivered another cross into the area. Isidor threw himself at the ball and diverted it beyond Trinidad and Tobago defender Déron Payne to complete Haiti’s comeback.
The goal came with the final moments of the match approaching and sparked celebrations from the Haitian players and staff.
Warriors turn to Dominican Republic
The defeat extended Trinidad and Tobago’s winless streak to nine matches.
King will now prepare the team for its next assignment against the Dominican Republic at Hasely Crawford Stadium on Sunday, September 27.
Captain Garcia acknowledged the disappointment of the defeat but urged the squad to move forward.
“Have more faith and trust the process a bit more,” Garcia said when asked how the players should respond.
