The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently tracking Tropical Storm Isaias, which was downgraded from hurricane status in the evening hours of Saturday, August 1.

As of the morning of Sunday, August 2, Tropical Storm Isaias was already located 45 miles east of Fort Lauderdale's coast and heading north. All Hurricane Warnings in South Florida have been cancelled, and the Tropical Storm Warning is only in effect for Palm Beach County and the coastal areas of Broward County. The Tropical Storm is expected to be at its closest approach to Florida's coast Sunday night and Monday morning before departing for the Carolinas. Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Monday afternoon and evening.

The greater Sunrise area is still likely to experience wind gusts and heavy rainfall throughout Sunday.

Update on City of Sunrise Services

  • Leisure Services facilities will be closed today, August 2 and will reopen tomorrow. This includes all parks, the Civic Center Athletic Club, the Village Beach Club pool, the Sunrise Tennis Club, and the Bridges at Springtree Golf Club.
  • Garbage, recycling and bulk trash collection will resume normal operations tomorrow.
