A 33-year-old Trinidadian national and lawful permanent resident of the United States has pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and admitted to kidnapping six other women in New York, according to the US Department of Justice.
Chad Barclay entered the guilty plea on Wednesday and faces a minimum of 15 years in federal prison.
During his plea hearing, Barclay admitted that on September 13, 2022, he enticed a woman to his residence to engage in commercial sex before robbing and sexually assaulting her.
As part of his plea agreement, he also stipulated to kidnapping six additional women between 2022 and 2023.
Barclay was initially charged in a 20-count superseding indictment in August 2023 involving five victims. The charges included interstate prostitution, Hobbs Act robbery, kidnapping, access device fraud, aggravated identity theft, witness tampering and obstruction of an official proceeding.
A second superseding indictment filed in May 2026 added a sex trafficking charge involving one of the original five victims, as well as interstate prostitution, Hobbs Act robbery, kidnapping and other charges involving two additional victims.
“Chad Barclay has now admitted that he kidnapped, violently raped, and robbed multiple female victims,” said Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Justice Department's Criminal Division.
“This prosecution demonstrates that we will always seek justice for survivors of trafficking and abuse to prevent more of these heinous crimes. This type of exploitation and violence has no place in our civilized society.”
US Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. for the Eastern District of New York described Barclay as a “dangerous predator” and said his guilty plea holds him accountable for the harm inflicted on his victims.
A federal district court judge will determine Barclay's sentence after considering the US Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case was investigated by the FBI's New York Field Office and the New York Police Department as part of the Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
