T&T fishing boats collide; one killed, others missing

The police in Trinidad and Tobago are reporting that at least one person is dead and three missing after two fishing boats collided off Los Iros Beach in Erin, South Trinidad, on Tuesday night.

They said one of the boats had stopped to allow fishermen to retrieve a fishing net when the other boat crashed into it, throwing the men overboard.

The police said the body of Sheldon Guerra, 40, was pulled from the water, while his colleague Joel Seerattan, 25, and four other men were injured and taken to the Siparia Health Facility.

Seerattan was later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Police also said that three men, whose identities have not yet been revealed, were thrown overboard and had not resurfaced.

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard is assisting in the search.
