Trinidad and Tobago to clash with Jamaica in pre-Copa America warm-up matches

Trinidad and Tobago's men’s football team is gearing up for their upcoming Copa America qualifying encounter against Canada by engaging in two preparation matches against the Reggae Boyz next week.

The TT Football Association revealed the friendly fixtures in a promotional announcement on its social media platforms on Saturday. The matches are scheduled to take place in Trinidad, although specific details have not yet been provided.

This will not be the first meeting between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica, as the two teams clashed three times last year. They faced off twice in friendly matches held in Montego Bay before meeting again at the Gold Cup in June. In their last friendly encounter, the Soca Warriors secured a 1-0 victory after the initial match ended in a goalless draw.

However, Jamaica emerged victorious when they met in the group stages of the Gold Cup, defeating Trinidad and Tobago 4-1.

Eliminated Canada on the away goals

Jamaica's recent success also extends to their involvement in the Copa America playoff match, where they eliminated Canada on the away goals rule after a thrilling 4-4 aggregate draw in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals in November.

Trinidad and Tobago faced disappointment in their bid for automatic qualification to the 2024 Copa America, falling short against the United States despite winning the second leg 2-1 in Port of Spain.

With their eyes set on securing a spot in the Copa America, the winner of the upcoming one-match playoff between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada will join Jamaica, USA, Mexico, Panama, and either Costa Rica or Honduras as the representatives from CONCACAF at the prestigious tournament, scheduled to be held in the US from June 20 to July 14.
