 St. Vincent and the Grenadines reached a watershed moment in its sporting history by capturing its first-ever Caribbean Junior Squash Association (Junior CASA) team championship, completing a dominant tournament that established the nation as the region's new standard-bearer in junior squash.

The Vincentian squad combined exceptional individual performances with a relentless display of teamwork throughout the championships, culminating in a memorable victory over defending champions Guyana to lift the coveted team trophy for the first time.

Their breakthrough success was built on a week of outstanding performances that also delivered an impressive collection of medals in the individual competition and propelled St. Vincent and the Grenadines to a third-place finish in the overall team standings.

Individual success sets the stage

Long before the team championship reached its dramatic conclusion, the Vincentians had already demonstrated their quality in the individual events.

The country's medal haul featured two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze, providing early evidence that this was one of the strongest junior squads St. Vincent and the Grenadines had ever assembled.

Zavin Garrick captured the Under-11 title with a series of commanding performances, while Jayden George emerged victorious in the Under-17 division to add a second championship for the Vincentians.

The Boys Doubles team secured the silver medal, and Jaydon Williams rounded out the podium finishes by earning bronze in the Under-19 competition.

Top seeds live up to expectations

Carrying the No. 1 seed into the team competition, St. Vincent and the Grenadines justified that billing from the opening round.

The championship-winning lineup of Zavin Garrick, Savante Padmore, Ethan Webster, Jayden George, Aiden DeFreitas, and Jaydon Williams proved too strong for every opponent they encountered during the group stage.

Jamaica, Barbados, and Guyana all fell convincingly as the Vincentians advanced through the preliminary rounds without surrendering their grip on the tournament.

That momentum continued into the semi-finals, where they brushed aside the Cayman Islands with a commanding 4-2 victory to earn another meeting with regional heavyweight Guyana.

Historic final delivers defining moment

The championship match offered Guyana an opportunity to avenge its earlier 5-1 group-stage defeat, but St. Vincent and the Grenadines produced another composed and clinical performance when it mattered most.

The tone was established immediately by the youngest member of the squad.

Garrick overwhelmed Jude Gobin in emphatic fashion, cruising to an 11-2, 11-0, 11-4 victory that handed the Vincentians an early advantage.

That momentum quickly intensified as Jayden George defeated Justin Ten Pow in straight games before Jaydon Williams followed with another straight-games victory over Joshua Verwey, leaving St. Vincent and the Grenadines within touching distance of history.

DeFreitas delivers the decisive victory

With the championship hanging in the balance, Aiden DeFreitas produced the defining performance of the tournament.

After claiming the opening game, DeFreitas faced a determined response from Shiloh Asregado, who leveled the contest by narrowly taking the second game.

The Vincentian quickly regained control, dominating the third before holding his nerve during a tense fourth game to secure an 11-8, 10-12, 11-2, 11-9 victory.

As the final point was won, celebrations erupted as St. Vincent and the Grenadines secured the first Caribbean Junior Squash team championship in the nation's history.

Success across the entire delegation

The accomplishments extended beyond the boys' championship squad.

The girls' team of Caeli George, Naira Skye-John, and Ciara George battled to a respectable ninth-place finish, contributing valuable points toward the nation's overall standing.

Their efforts helped St. Vincent and the Grenadines finish third overall among all competing countries, underscoring the growing depth of the nation's junior squash program.

Eyes already fixed on bigger challenges

With history now secured, head coach Jules Snagg and his players have already turned their attention toward defending their newly won regional crown in 2027.

For Under-17 champion Jayden George, however, the celebrations will be brief.

Fresh from his Caribbean triumph, the rising Vincentian star has shifted his focus to the World Junior Squash Championships in Canada, where he will compete from July 20-31 against many of the world's top young players.

His appearance on the global stage marks another significant milestone for a program that has announced itself in emphatic fashion, transforming from regional contender to Caribbean champion in a performance that will be remembered as one of the defining moments in Vincentian squash history.
