While that method of determining the winner remains unchanged, artistes will now be required to formally register their songs before they can be considered.
According to the CPMC, the changes represent a significant milestone in modernizing the competition while safeguarding the integrity of one of Lucian Carnival's most celebrated traditions.
Under the new regulations, only songs released after the conclusion of the previous Carnival season will qualify for entry. Eligible artistes must be Saint Lucian nationals or residents, while collaborations involving multiple performers must include at least one Saint Lucian artiste.
Entries must be submitted electronically through the official Road March application form before the published deadline. Each submission must include a completed entry form and an audio file in MP3 or WAV format. Organizers have made it clear that late submissions will not be accepted.
The judging format will continue to rely on the long-standing "Play Count Method," with judges monitoring how often each registered song is played at designated judging points stretching from Mega J to Castries during Carnival Monday and Tuesday. Judging will begin at 10 a.m. on Carnival Monday and continue through Carnival Tuesday.
Should two songs finish with the same number of plays, the winner will be determined by whichever song receives the higher score at the final judging point.
The stakes remain high for competitors. The winning artiste will receive a cash prize of EC$10,000, the official Road March Champion Trophy, and the title of Road March Champion of Lucian Carnival.
The new rules also clearly outline the grounds for disqualification. Songs that are not officially registered before the deadline or are not played at the designated judging locations during the parade will not qualify for the competition.
The winner will be announced on the Wednesday immediately following Lucian Carnival during the official results presentation.
The CPMC said the Road March title remains the ultimate reflection of the soundtrack that defines the Carnival road experience, capturing the energy of masqueraders and resonating with both locals and visitors. Organizers believe the structured registration process will elevate the competition while providing greater recognition for the artistes, songwriters, and producers whose music fuels the Carnival celebrations.
Artistes wishing to compete can submit their entries through the official application form available on the Lucian Carnival website.
