The government of St Kitts and Nevis has introduced a three-month temporary tax relief measure on school supplies, beginning in July 2025, to ease the financial burden on families as they prepare for the new academic year.

“Education is the foundation of our nation’s future and we recognise the financial challenges many parents face when preparing their children for school. By removing these taxes on essential supplies, we are taking concrete steps to make education more accessible while providing meaningful relief to households across our federation,” said Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Terrance Drew.

During the relief period, essential educational items will be exempt from import duty, Value Added Tax (VAT), and the Customs Service Charge. The government said the tax concession will cover a broad range of back-to-school necessities, including uniform fabrics, textbooks, stationery, calculators, and other learning materials.

The initiative is designed to benefit both commercial importers and individual parents, ensuring greater access to affordable school supplies for all sectors of society.

The government emphasized that the tax break underscores its commitment to supporting families and prioritizing education.

“By reducing the financial burden of back-to-school expenses, the measure aims to ensure all students have access to the tools they need for academic success while stimulating local economic activity during this important seasonal period,” it added.
